10 Minute Nature 'Challenge'

The 'Challenge' ... hmm, I really don't like the word challenge in this circumstance, because it
feels like hard work or something that is difficult to achieve. Surely the aim of more time in
nature is to increase the levels of 'ease' we have in our lives ... calmer, slower, more connected
and in tune with ourselves and the world around us (not that I have grandiose expectations over
its power but I also know how powerful it can be ... so yes, maybe my expectations of the
benefits are pretty high!). But I digress. My sister and I were discussing the fact that despite
extolling the virtues of being in nature, we rarely were doing the practice ourselves on a regular
basis.
So we have set ourselves a positive habit shift 'challenge' over the next 30 days. 10 minutes a
day of consciously connecting to nature. We are all so busy that it can feel hard to find the time,
but if I look at my screen time / scroll time per day, I am sure I can find 10 mins / day for this.
The 'rules' ...
1) no phones - well, only for the 10 min timer. Put on do not disturb or airplane mode for the
duration.
2) can be inside or outside. If outside, make sure you are warm enough (or cool enough!) and
somewhere you can be undisturbed for the time. If inside, by a window is good. Or with a pot
plant inside.
3) no set outcome or 'to do' list. Just focus on the nature all around you. If your mind wanders
maybe try focusing in on one sense at a time. 'Hearing' is a good one to start off with, with your
eyes open or closed. Focusing on the furthest sound (whether human made or natural) and the
closest. Also touch, if you are near a tree or the ground ... maybe take your shoes off if that feels
right for you.
Let us know how it goes! @roots_nature_therapy #10minutenature
